As previously reported, the media.connect conference meet the industry took place on November 8, 2017, with the theme Blackbox Online Marketing. The event aimed to inform guests with an interesting and comprehensible overview of the various disciplines within online marketing. Our SEO expert Axel Zawierucha was a speaker, presenting on the extensive topic of search engine optimization (SEO). Other companies discussed topics such as social media marketing, branded content, or email marketing. Apart from the SEO agency internetwarriors with A. Zawierucha, other notable speakers included Marcel Pirlich from Adspert Bidmanagement and Kristina Faßler from WELT24. We asked A. Zawierucha questions about the event to provide a more detailed insight.

SEO Expert A. Zawierucha on Search Engine Optimization

Following a keynote that broadly explained online marketing and offered an exciting insight behind the scenes of digital marketing from the company Teufel, A. Zawierucha spoke. As the CEO and founder of the SEO agency in Berlin, he has extensive experience in this field. He addressed, among other things, how important technical SEO consulting is, what link building involves, and the significance of content as a measure in SEO. Summarized by A. Zawierucha, the goal was to fundamentally explain to the audience how search engine optimization works. If companies want to make meaningful use of search engine optimization, they must consider essential points. From the company's side, it is also important to create certain prerequisites so that SEO can become a profitable channel in digital marketing.

SEO Strategies and Potentials

SEO encompasses all methods and measures to influence search results. Structure, content, and programming are tailored so that increased relevance is signaled to the search engine for certain keywords. These methods can be divided into on-page optimization and off-page optimization.

What Should Not Be Missing in SEO Support?

First, a comprehensive SEO analysis of the website or shop should be conducted. This includes examining the technology, keywords, competitors, or content on the website. After the analysis, a concept can be developed, which is then implemented by SEO experts. Continuous support is important, which includes keyword and competitor monitoring and regular reporting. A. Zawierucha states that SEO is a discipline that benefits from experiential knowledge, and only those who have observed and interpreted Google over the years can provide high-quality advice to their clients. Without search engine optimization, there is a risk that your own website will quickly get lost in the crowd. The potential of SEO can be recognized when considering Google’s reach: 2 billion search queries per year and 140 million searches per day make it worthwhile to invest in a high ranking in search queries.

Social Media Marketing, Big Data, and Branded Content…

Further talks followed, which overall were able to cover the field of digital marketing well. Ines Ventzke (ressourcenmangel) spoke about the possibilities of social media marketing, such as increasing brand awareness and maintaining its image. Manuel Hinz (CrossEngage) explained in his presentation that large volumes of data are defined as Big Data and analyzing these datasets poses a technical challenge. However, analyzing Big Data can make online marketing significantly more effective and targeted. Additionally, the topic of branded content, an approach within content marketing, was presented by Max Koglin (StoYo Media). This involves personalized content placement intended to increase leads and sales. The Berlin agency StoYo Media focuses on creating videos that are published on Facebook differently than traditional advertising, and they are very successful in doing so. The entertaining clips are tailored to the target audience and aim to reach users through creativity and humor.

Additional elements discussed included keyword/paid advertising, native advertising, and email marketing.

In the closing panel, there was a lively discussion on the question "Offline Marketing vs. Online Marketing?" SEO expert A. Zawierucha debated with interesting interlocutors, such as the marketing director of the Berlin public transport company. When asked what the closing panel was about, A. Zawierucha replied: “The main focus of the closing panel was to contrast the online world with the offline world. On one side, we had companies still heavily engaged in offline marketing and others solely involved in online marketing. These two directions were meant to discuss with each other.” He pointed out the problem that no company can solely conduct offline marketing anymore, and therefore, in his opinion, the juxtaposition is constructed and does not lead to any real insight. It is a fact that companies can effectively find and address their target audience through disciplines like SEO, Google AdWords, or social media.
